Walt Disney World · 2026 Planning Guide

The Ultimate Disney World
Packing List

What to bring, what to skip, and what to buy when you get there. Organized by category with honest pro tips from people who have done the 20,000-step park day.

You will walk 8-12 miles per day at Walt Disney World. You will get rained on. You will need your phone charged at 9 PM when the fireworks start. And you will wish you had packed one thing differently. This list exists to prevent that last part.

Everything here comes from experience. Not every item is essential for every traveler, but the items in the Park Bag Essentials section are non-negotiable. The rest depends on your season, your party, and your style.

Skip These — Save the Space

Umbrellas. They block views for people behind you, you cannot hold them on rides, they drip everywhere indoors, and they take up a hand you need for your phone/food/child. Ponchos are better in every way.
Fancy shoes. You will walk 8-12 miles on concrete. Fashion shoes will hurt by noon and potentially ruin your trip. Save them for a nice dinner off-site.
Too many outfits. You are in a theme park, not a fashion show. Pack one outfit per park day plus one nice dinner outfit. Do laundry at your resort if needed — all Disney resorts have laundry facilities.
Selfie sticks. Banned from all Disney parks worldwide. They will be confiscated at the bag check. Use the front-facing camera or ask a PhotoPass photographer.
Large coolers. Not allowed in the parks. Small soft-sided coolers (no larger than 24" x 15" x 18") are permitted. A small insulated lunch bag is enough for snacks and drinks.
Full-size toiletries. Disney resorts provide shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (H2O+ brand). Bring only specialty items you specifically need. Save the luggage space.

Buy These When You Get There

Mickey ears and headbands. Half the fun is picking them out at the park. Dozens of styles at every gift shop. Budget $30-40 per pair. Or buy discounted ones from Amazon before your trip for $10-15.
Pressed pennies. The cheapest souvenir at Disney (51 cents each). Machines are scattered across all four parks. Kids love hunting for them. Bring a roll of quarters and some clean pennies, or use the newer machines that accept cards.
Specific souvenirs your kids want. Let them pick one special thing per park day. Setting the expectation before you arrive prevents gift shop meltdowns. The $15 budget usually covers a plush, a pin, or a small toy.
Resort-specific merchandise. Each Disney resort has unique merchandise you cannot find elsewhere. If you are a collector, check the resort gift shop on your arrival day.

Season-Specific Additions

Summer (June - September)

Pack extra sunscreen, a cooling towel (soak it in water and drape it around your neck), and plan for at least one full outfit change per day due to sweat and rain. A waterproof phone pouch is worth the $8 investment. Hydration is critical — you need to drink more water than you think.

Winter (November - February)

Florida winters are mild but mornings can be chilly (50-60 degrees F). Pack a light jacket or fleece for early mornings and evening fireworks. You probably will not need it by noon. Layers are key: start warm, peel off as the day heats up.

Spring and Fall

The most comfortable seasons. A light layer for air conditioning is usually enough. Rain is less predictable in spring — keep ponchos in your bag just in case. Fall has the driest weather and the most pleasant temperatures.

The One-Bag Rule

Everything you bring into the park needs to fit in one bag per adult. A small backpack or crossbody bag is ideal. Every bag goes through security screening at the entrance, so the smaller your bag, the faster you get through. Do not bring a diaper bag, a purse, AND a backpack — consolidate into one. Stroller bags are an exception since they stay with the stroller at ride entrances.
